Charles Hartland born 1835 ish may not be Hannah's son, both she and her husband could have been married before. On the census as her husband is the head of the family relationships given will relate to him. I.e. Edward will be his stepson, and children listed as his sons / daughters could be just his sons / daughters or their sons / daughters. |

ChristineIP seems to have the right household in 1851, even if she somehow managed to delete Ed. I would follow her lead and get Caroline's b.cert - this seems to be the earliest statutory birth rego for this family, so should give Hannah's maiden/former surname which you probably wouldn't find from a baptismal entry down south. It doesn't follow that Charles and Edward are her kids. |

she could well have been widowed and remarried within a very few years. People often seemed to re-marry for security if they had a very young child to rear and v little money. |

hi all sorry for slight delay in further reply but my computer started playing up, blue I dont think that could be the Hannah I am looking for as her first Hartland child was born in 1836 a Charles Hartland ( Im assuming either she broke tradition of naming first son after dad James or first legal son died??) I would guess possibly that Edward Jackson was born out of wedlock as I cant imagine her being married divorced and married to James Hartland within that few years. thanks for the ideas so far. it would be interesting to find where they were living around the early 1850s to see where this "nurse child" came from a Maria Squele b 1850?? |

Civil registration didn't start till 1837 so birth certs for 1833 don't exist. |

I have managed to trace back to g.g. grandparents on my grandmothers side, starting with Wells then Hartlands back to the Macguires, I wanted to find the the maiden name of a Hannah Hartland born 1813 (married a James Hartland born abt 1811) as in the 1851 census they seem to have a stepson called Edward Jackson born abt 1833?? so I wanted to find out if this may have Hannahs maiden name as she surely couldnt have been married, divorced +married again so quick, but when I put her birthdate in to check I keep getting a pop up saying to put in a date from a later time??? hope this makes sense thanks |
