I know nothing about the processes of finding adopted children. I am searching for my friends half sister.
I have her birth parents names and know her mother died when she was 2yrs. I know her birth from the registers which was in 1950 .Are there any kind of search registers with children looking for their birth parents or family?

The best way is to let her find you.

Your friend has the knowledge that she has a half sister ( is that right) that was given for adoption.

The girl given for adoption may not know she isnt the natural child of her parents.

you can register with various site ( or she can)

What you wont find anywhere is a list/register of
Jill Brown became Helen Green. ( or whatever)

She did try to make contact last year and telephoned my friend's mum who told her they did what to rake up the past. The truth is that my friend wasn't told of this at the time and only just found out from her mother when it slipped out in conversation. Her mother is set against contact and says she doesn't know where she is only she had a town name.

So from the info you have given I am right in thinking that her half sister has been looking for your friend already ?
So is your friends adoptive mother that does not want her to have contact with her sister ?

No , My friends real mother the second wife of my friends father is who doesn't want contact. Her half sister and her share the same father ,but different mothers. First wife died aged 22.

What a shame. She will have to tread carefully to avoid a family rift.

So your friends mum refused to allow this poor women contact with her natural father... May God forgive her because I certainly wouldn't. She had no right to do that !! It wasn't her decision.

There is an Adoption Contact Register that your friend can join. Her h/sister may be already on it. If so they will contact her to let her know your friend wishes contact.

There are a few good websites to read up about adoption searches
www.adoptionsearchreunion.org.uk and also www.gro.gov.uk and click into adoptions.

I wonder if this second wife knew about the child at all?
Presumably she did if she let it slip in converation.

Have you got the birth cert? is he named? Have you asked him what he thinks? if he is the surviving parent maybe is up to him IF he is named on the cert.

The father died over 20 yrs ago.
I have given my friend details of adoptive childrensreg which is held in Manchester county record office. They are shut this weekend so she will have to go next week.

Are you sure that the sister was adopted ? if her Mother died when she was 2 maybe she could have been raised by family, and kept her name,
On the plus side if she contacted your Friends Mother then she is looking for her birth family, have you done a search of tree on here to see if she has been a member ?

Have you got an address for her ? anyway wish her and your friend all the best for the Future :O)

Just to let you know that my friend is now in touch with her half sister which is wonderful news.

They have a lot of catching up to do and to find answers to their many questions.

It was the site Francis Frith that gave me my lead on this one. I looked in the memories and recognised what one lady was talking about and just took it from there.
