Here he is in 1871 with his mother and siblings. Fits in with what Betty found. All children born Prussia. |

noticed there are a number of Widdowfield families in Durham and that appears to be the only place where the spelling is as you have it - there are variations in other areas |

I am trying to find more details as to the place of birth of my maternal Grandfather, Joseph Widdowfield, born 1863 in a place listed as Deu Bs Shamrock. On the 1901 census his birth place is given as Germany Shamrock but after searching geographical websites such as Google Earth, no such a place exists. Believe the Deu is an abbreviation for Deutschland and the Bs refers to the fact that he is a British Subject. At the time of his wedding in 1899 it gives his fathers name as James Widdowfield and he is deceased. His occupation was that of a mine sinker. The National Archives believe that since the name Shamrock is not showing perhaps it was the name of a ship! I cannot find where or when his father died or the name of his mother, or if he had any siblings. Would appreciate any comments or advice that anyone may offer as this has brought my search to a complete standstill. |
