Checked the whole of Shoreditch and Shepherdess walk is not in any of the enumeration districts descriptions. Am off now to check if any of my lot are near there in 1861 (If memory serves me right Murray Street is nearby)

Ah, so no amount of searching will find them if the sheets have been lost. Well, we gave it our best shot. Thanks for everyone's input.

I've checked the district descriptions for St Leonards and Shepherdess Walk doesn't appear on it. Judging by the number of sheets there are missing books.

As an aside, I did find two of my lot there!

Both excellent ideas, which unfortunately didn't bring results for the 1861. Searching a combination of first names, as Janet suggests, works wonders when there have been transcription errors! It is how I found the family in 1851.

Who would have thought the word "Greening" could cause so much problems in transcription!

Try searching by first names only in the correct area. In 1901 my grandfather has a totally different surname. his Mother had "remarried" and the whole family went under the new name.

Easiest way is to find neighbours on 1851 and then look for them on 1861. Pick young (10 or under) male ones with unusual names.

John and Richard jr Greening reappear in later censuses, though their mother has died in 1867. The 1861 record gap is a mystery!

Really struggling with 1861 to find any of them

The children were all born in Shepherdess Walk, Shoreditch. See how that has got mangled into Warwickshire on 1851! They were a s*d to find!

Thats why I did not find them !!!

Children are George (11), Richard (9), John (7), Edward (4) and Eliza (3m born several years after death of mother's husband!)

I have the Greening family living at 4 Shepherdess Walk for the 1841 and 1851 censuses. I'm trying to see if they are still there in 1861.

I'm trying to zero in on the Shepherdess Walk area of Shoreditch, Trinity Hoxton, Tower Hamlets in 1861. Is there an easy way to do this?
