hi im looking for my great grandmother issabella mcdonald,who after giving birth to my grandfather in 1915 disappeared of the face of the earth,ive had searches done by the liverpool records office and nothing can be found,i know she didnt die young as my grandfather used to talk about her to my mum when she was young.
she was a servant and only 17 in 1915,she was unmarried and gave my grandfather up for adoption.where do i go from here?x

How do you know that she didnt die young if your grandfather was adopted out?was she in contact with him?
Have you searched anywhere else other than liverpool as she may have moved away to get married.

Isabella W. McDonald who married John J. Ogilvie
Dec quarter 1916 at Liverpool.

If this doesn't fit in try a search there for other districts she may have moved further away.

Don't know why Liverpool missed it.

Have you found her on the 1901 census? With a name like that there's a fair chance she hailed from Scotland and may have returned to Scotland later possibly getting married there.

Was your grandfather adopted through a children's home/mother and baby home? If it was a private arrangement there's a chance that the people who adopted him were known to her, perhaps family members/neighbours.
(I use the term "adopted" loosely as there was no formal adoption process prior to 1927)

hi i should of explained this story a little better,
ive got the marriage cert for the issabella mcdonald and oiglive and thats not her(to old age 30) grandads adopted parents did know her(his adopted mother use to help the midwife with deliveries)
ive just come back from scotland (2wks ago)were i went to do research she wasnt there.we know it wasnt a formal adoption but she did reg the birth before she gave him away.she was born in scotland in a place called dufftown in moray,her parents came to liverpool in 1901 just before her sister was born,by 1908 both parents were dead.x

Then all I can suggest is that there are another 13 marriages on freebmd up until 1925 and I would start with the nearest ones to liverpool and send off for 1 at a time with her fathers name down on it so that you get a partial refund if its not her.
A bit expensive I know but may work and then you may be able to get her name for a death record
Its what I did in similar circumstances,sorry not to be of more help.

could you possibly follow her sisters progress as maybe they ended up near each other?

yes i could follow her sisters life,didnt think of that.x

can anyone else think of any other way i could find isabella other than the above ideas?x

There's a John McDonald on this site who has the sister Annie on his tree. Have you tried contacting him?

Did Isabella have a middle name?
