	Can you remember where you got the middle name James for William please? He didn't use a middle name when he married or on the 1939 register. I think you may have to buy your grandparents marriage certificate to see if William gives a name and occupation for his father. Also William's occupation on that may help us identify him on the 1911 census. You can order certificates online from the GRO. They cost £9.25 each.

	So you don't think that's you father and grandfather together on the 1939 register please? If this is your father's death, then that looks to me that's him with his father in 1939. Member Since: March 2016 Posts: 14 Send Message	I know very little about both William and Lily Sheppard, though my grandparents they passed when my father George Phillip Sheppard was very young. George was raised by the Burtons who lived at Sultans Lane Portsmouth- he worked for them from a very young age (8 or 9 I believe).

Date of death I think I stumbled upon whilst searching sites but did not document anything at the time and can not seem to find it again. But completely stumped at finding great grandparents. Haven't ordered any certificates - not sure how to go about that?? as you may have guessed quite a newby at this. .
