I suspect John was also a Merchant seaman- the newspaper article, makes reference to John Wash's razor- when questioned, John said he bought the razor at Portland in America about 11 years ago (c1840). |

This was the John mentioned in the article- it was Henry Harrington (the brother of Mary Wash) under suspicion- Perhaps this is Charles' brother? |

There's an article about a murder in Tollesbury in 1851, the suspect lived with John Wash (dredgerman) and his wife. During the court case a Mrs Wash, wife of Charles Wash (dredgerman) gives evidence that she was at John Wash's house on the day of the murder. |

I wondered about this one- which might explain why he wouldn't be on the 1841: |

Unfortunately, the 1841 doesn't show relationships to the head of the household, only rounded ages, occupation and if born 'in county'. |

As there is no father named on the MC for Charles Wash, then either he was illegitimate or didn't know his father's name (left/died when he was very young?) |

I know about the census and when they changed. If you look Mike I was referring to the 1901 census that you put on this thread at 13.46 and that they both said they came from Tollesbury. Someone else could have given the information for them. They could have been deaf for example. |
