Sorry about that i meant birth year 1856 - 1860c according to the 1901 and 1911 census's.

Just to confuse things a little more.

His daughter Lillian gives her dad Williams name as John on her 1932 marriage certificate.

Maybe that could be his fathers death .....

It would seem that the death reference would have been in regards to a baby that had been born and died within the same year.

He's very difficult to pin down.

Do you have Lillian's birth certificate? If so, have you found a marriage for her parents? As Shirley above has said, this should give you his father's name.
