I am researching my daughter in law's family and have come upon a problem. Edward Sampson was born in July 1904 in South Molton Devon and is on 1911 census as an adopted child with a family called Squires. He still has his original surname. Other than ordering a birth certificate is there any way I can find out the names of his birth parents. Edward was married in 1931 in Bromley to Doris Hughes and he died in 1979 in Ashford, Kent.
Happy New Year

Isaac Squires 30 Fanny Squires 29 David Squires 8 Ivy Northam 7
Ivy is 'Foster child', so looks as if they made a habit of taking in children.

This looks to be Edward's Baptism. From the Baptism Register it looks like he was illegitimate as no Father is named and was born in the Workhouse.

Although not married I think, in view of the above, there is a strong possibilty that Edward Kingdon was the birth father of Edward Kingdon Sampson.

Thank you so much. I think that Esther and Edward Kingdon could be the parents of Edward Sampson. The name of Kingdon is so unusual as forename and could have been given as it was the fathers surname.
Once again, thank you
