My apologies Brigid - my memory must be playing tricks - I was sure I saw it on here :-S
I must have seen it somewhere but I do 'flit' from site to site at times so maybe I saw it elsewhere or when I googled but having looked at the rootschat link which Chris gives above it wasn't that one.
Is this what you need? - Your first posts asks for No 5 in 1901.........

Thanks Chris have edited title (computer fatigue moment ?)
I can use Find My past in library so will copy your instructions and give it a go unfortunately my local library has started to close on Thursdays which is my regular day off .

(looks like that reference above)
Your title here has Street?...
Chris :)
(Find My Past)
1891 Bury New Road in 'Optional Keywords' box brings up below, as first on list, Head of that Household John E Mercer, 101 further down at bottom of page)
Bury New Road, Broughton, Salford, Lancashire, England ? Alice 1866 — 1891 1891 England, Wales & Scotland Census Broughton, Salford, Lancashire Archive reference RG12 Piece number 3213 Folio 69 Page 7
(for Ancestry, copy above RG, Piece, Folio and Page numbers into Search boxes)
(bit complicated to explain FMP now they have changed things, a case of 'fiddle and learn'!, I'm sure others members have other ways also, failing that always google, very often references come up for different Census years, Streets, Roads etc.)
edits (for FMP)
(see 'Search' top of page, then click 'Census, land & surveys', look down left side to 'Census', then click)

Brigid,
Have you deleted your first thread on this from earlier today on which someone kindly gave you the info on the above addresses being lock up shops ??? - If so, why ???
Or, has that person deleted their replies ?

. 1891
number 7 + 101 Bury new Road were lock up shops
A lock up shop is a shop which is not used for residential purposes. At the end of the day, it is locked and the shopkeeper goes home.
101 New bury Road
1901 3767 /138/1 - Jacob HERBST and family shows that the dwelling had 4 rooms.

Could someone talk me thru how to look up street addresses in 1891 and 1901 census;
I know it is possible but I've only ever looked up names on censuses , not addresses
Having just found a death of a family member 1900 next door to where the family lived in 1899 ; think it may be useful to look who was living at number 5 in 1901 . and if there are any in-law connections in that street.
My family arrived from Russia after the 1891 census , but children were enrolled at school from 101 Bury New Road .so it would be interesting to know who lived there on 1891 census
grateful for any help
