Abraham Shorter c1846 - seeking wife and census

Abraham Shorter was baptised 20/12/1846 at Speldhurst Kent.
A Maidstone death in 4Q1919 gives age 73.

He appears in the 1851 census as 4, 1861 as 16, 1891 as 40, 1901 as 52, 1911 as 65, and seems to marry Harriet May Betts on 14/3/1886 Deptford.

There's another Abraham Shorter marriage in 2Q1867 Tonbridge which may well also be him but I haven't found him in 1871 or 1881 to identify the spouse.

Can anyone help?

There is a note on the prison record from the Rector of Spelhurst stating he was Henry Shorter (now known as Henry Fisher) and was baptised Church of England. His father was James Shorter.

According to newspaper reports He married Ellen Waghorn in Rustall (nr Tunbridge Wells) in 1867. He later married Mary Ann Purkis- but Ellen was still living.

It's definitely worth taking a look at the British Newspaper Archives- there is a few articles that relate to him- Including an article about assaulting his wife, Harriett, in 1893. (it states they were married 14th March 1886).

Oh, in case this helps- the article re his bigamous marriage states his first marriage to Ellen Waghorn was in the presence of his married sister CECELIA MURRELL. This might help confirm it is the correct man.

I think there's only one. His sister and his daughter Agnes Cecilia both had spouses named William Murrell. The daughter then remarried to James Stoner after her daughter had married a William Funnell and then James's son. I still don't know Agnes Cecilia's mother but fortunately my interest is the Stoners.

It's quite a maze!
