Hi,

Can anyone find any details about this person who died March 1898 in Bedminster, Somerset.

Eldridoa Sharp who died when 19 years old.


I cannot find this person on a census


I do have a Baptism for an Eldridoa Sharp Bap. date is 7 August 1898 in Somerset, parents are Hugh & Alice Sharp it is likely this couple knew the 19 year old Eldridoa who died in the March of 1898.

Such an unusual name.

Any help would be appreciated.

I cannot find any further information on the Eldridoa Sharp born in 1898

BUT on the 1901 Census, is HILDA Sharp, age 2, born ca 1899. Hilda is also on the 1911 Census age 12, so born ca 1899

There seems to be NO Hilda Sharp born in Somerset ca 1895-1900

Ergo ............... was Eldridoa born 1898 later called Hilda???????


This could make sense .............. the child born ca 6 months after the elder Eldridoa died was named and baptised for her, but the name was too "raw" for the parents so they changed it to Hilda for everyday use.

and this looks like Eldridoa in 1881 with grandparents ...... Hugh is on a Vessel in harbour in Wales

John Henry Sharp was born in late 1880, but I cannot find either him or his mother Alice on the 1881 census.



Further regarding the name Eldridoa, I wonder if it was a family name in either Hugh or Alice's family, or if it was just their mispelling of Eldorado???

I had already suggested that the child registered in September 1898 was named for her sister who died earlier that year, but was called "Hilda" to differentiate her.
