Thanks so much everyone for your replies and advice. I hadn't thought about purchasing my uncle's military record but that's a really good idea and one I shall follow up. I'm new to the Community Boards so hope I've done this correctly! Thanks agaIn |

How wonderful that would be to find the family of the lady who you were named after! |

Do you know which area of France Paulette came from? The only thing I can think of is sending a letter to a newspaper in the area asking if anyone remembers a girl of this name who was engaged to your uncle. If you don't know the area you could try a national newspaper but I don't think there would be as much chance of success. |

Victor Arnett was the Uncle I never knew, my Father's youngest brother. He died at Monte Casino, Italy during WW2 in 1943. When I was born in December 1944 my Grandmother (his mother) asked that I be named after the girl he had been engaged to - a French girl named Paulette. I know nothing about her - is there a way after all these years her family could be traced, or what happened to her after his death? (she would not be alive now). Would be really grateful for any help or suggestions. |
