If you order a copy of James's birth cert from ScotlandsPeople , it will tell you his parents' names, and when they married. |

When you've found James's parents' marriage, the cert will give you their ages, which will help in searching for Alexander, and also their parents' names. |

I'm not sure if you mean Frances was James's wife, or Alexander's - but can't see any marriage of a Frances to either of them in Scotland. |
