Two trees on Ancestry have his name as James Thomson Birnie born 6 Dec.1884, Aberdeenshire, mother Annie Birnie.
Another tree has his name as James Birnie Thomson, same birth date, parents Alexander Thomson & Annie Birnie.
All have marriage to Annie Willox 2 Dec.1910, New Pitsligo, Aberdeenshire.

Have a few spare credits to Scotlands People but you really need to get some for yourself if you are going to be researching in Scotland. The 1911 census is only available on SP and to see originals of any posted here you would have to refer to SP. However you can then download copies and also copies of bmd's - there is a privacy restriction of 100 years for births, 75 for marriages and 50 years for deaths. £7 will buy you 30 credits and if you're careful you'll be able to download 5 certificates for that - bargain, English ones are £9.25 each! Younger than those dates, the GRO reference no. is given and you can order from GROS (£12 each)
Marriage James Thomson and Annie Willox
Married 16 December 1910 at The Public Hall New Pitsligo (Tyrie) After Banns according to the rights of the Established Church of Scotland
James Thomson Cattleman Bachelor of 65 High Street, New Pitsligo Father (Reputed) Alexander Thomson Ploughman Mother Annie Birnie Domestic Servant - afterwards married to James Strachan, Farmer
Annie Willox Domestic Servant Spinster of ? ? Street, New Pitsligo Father - William Willox Cattleman Mother - Jeannie Willox Maiden surname ?Gerrard
Witnesses William Willox and Barbara Whyte Cowie
Minister - Alexander Craib of New Pitsligo
If Alexander Thomson was the refuted Father (and it looks as though James did take his name) there may be records in the local Kirk Sessions

?????????? This would be very very tentative - based only on him being in Fraserburgh and a Farm Servant. James says on his marriage certificate that his Father was Alexander Thomson a Ploughman.
