I want to know why there second name was Poleglass as this name ventured onto my mcdowell side of the family in 1879

Who is this other one living are they related to me can you send me details please
Ive just found a 3rd cousin in the U.S on my fathers side she is sending me correspondence and photos but I dont know how my great grandparents went abroad in the 1880 after the children were born in stoke damerel devon 1874 or perhaps after the mother died something else to think about now
