Thanks Mary for that. If that is the correct Charles, then they are cousins.
Just need proof of marriage now, to confirm everything.
Any ideas as to find this marriage - I am struggling to find it!
Gritty, as for the bigamy by George Belcher, thanks for the info from his army records, but do they state who the 'other woman' was? Was his marriage to Clara the bigamous one, or the other marriage. Were there any children by this marriage I wonder?
Also Gritty, anything for Colwyn Street on electoral registrs?

Right what about this. Clara 1890 daughter of Thomas 1860 Thomas had a brother henry 1861 1911 Henry and family at18,Queen Street same address as on army record for George Belcher.
Henry and Thomas had sister Florence Priscilla Whittington @ 1866 she married in 1883 to William John SMITH born 1860 Ludlow. they had CHARLIE/CHARLES Smith 1886 Abingdon.
Charles is at home with parents in Warwickshire 1891/1901 but I can't find him 1911.
Could this be the same Charles Smith who Clara was with??

I cannot read !! Colwyn STREET is what it says on the birth cert...... not Colwyn Court.
My mistake. Sorry.
Mother registered the birth and Charles senior was described as a Pedlar.
I forgot to mention that the childs full name was Charles Ernest Smith.

Interesting to hear about George Belcher.
Can anyone check to see who was living at the address - Colwyn Court, Hercules Road, Lambeth. Do records exist such as electoral registers etc.. ?

George Belcher and Ellen Clack might have been the ones who married in 1900, and in that case this might be them ...................
1901 Census
Name: George Belcher Age: 26 Estimated birth year: abt 1875 Relation to Head: Head Gender: Male Spouse: Ellen Belcher Birth Place: Ashton Keynes, Wiltshire, England Civil Parish: Great Coxwell Search Photos: Search for 'Great Coxwell' in the UK City, Town and Village Photos collection Ecclesiastical parish: Great Coxwell St Giles Town: Great Coxwell County/Island: Berkshire Country: England

They are still together in 1911 ., so apparently NOT the George Belcher who "married" Clara Whittington.

Re: George Belcher
I beg to inform you that the above man is committed to take his trial at the next Oxfordshire Assizes upon a charge of bigamy.
He states he joined the RASC about 12 years ago and served in the Transport (Horse) Section as a driver.
During his army service he was transferred to Appleton on agricultural work, I should be glad if you could inform me that date he was posted to Appleton, and the particulars of his army record, for the information of the Judge. Yours Faithfully, George Webb Chief Inspector for Chief Constable.

I am looking for the marriage - if there is one - to Charles Smith (birth unknown at present !).
Clara & Charles had a son b 1920 - also called Charles Smith in Lambeth. On his birth cert it states his father as Charles Smith and his mother as 'Clara Smith, Late Belcher, Formerly Whittington.'
Living in a court just off Hercules Road, Lambeth, London, 1920.
Clara married George Belcher (b. 1890) in Abingdon Reg District, 1908. They had a son, b 1912 in Abingdon. So the previous names on Charles' birth cert are correct in that respect.
I am unsure when George Belcher died or if they ever divorced?
I would like to trace family of Charles Smith senior!!
Any clues / help / information would be most welcome.
