Help needed please - husband and wife disappear into a black hole separately and then appear again.
Robert Blacklock was born in Chelsea, London on 29th November 1841.
When he is 14 years old he is admitted to the workhouse near his home in St Pancras but he is only there for one night and is then sent to live with his uncle where he remains until his marriage in September 1866.
He married Susan Sophia Purchase b 1843 from North Parrett near Yeovil in Somerset and had two children.
I cannot find him anywhere for the 1871 census but we find Susan in the 1871 census living with her, their son and daughter, Annie and John in St Pancras and listed as a widow.
He re-appears in the 1881 census living in Platt Street, St Pancras with just his son John although it states that he is married, there is no sign of Susan his wife.
I cannot find her on the 1881 census at all but their daughter Annie is living with her uncle, Charles Purchase in Paddington, London.
So he is missing in the 1871 census and she says she is a widow and she is missing in the 1881 census though he says he is married. From the 1891 census all the way till 1911 they are back living together again.
So what was going on? I would love to know where he was in 1871 and her in 1881.
Any super sleuths out there?

Sorry, been out and only just seen all these replies. Thank you everyone <3
Robert who went to live in the US is from a different family - there are a lot of Blacklocks in Durham but ours originally came from Dumfries and then moved to London.
Edward John married to Louisa Sarah are my husband's grandparents and Robert married to Susan Purchase are his g grandparents.
I know who all the family are but what puzzles me is that he appears on no census for 1871 and she appears on no census in 1881 and yet every census from 1891 onwards they are together again. :-S :-S

Following on from that possible 1881 for Susan - I had wondered about this one for Robert in 1871. I had discounted it earlier because this RB is listed as unmarried (but then Susan said she was a widow!), but will post it after all - though still a very long shot.
It does, however, say that RB is a waiter, whereas Robert is a cab driver when he reappears in 1881. But he could have changed his occupation, I suppose.
