thanks Londonbelle & Argyllgran, well what you have found as totally left me speechless for some things now happen to tie up - well I hope. I actually know the place to where Gladys was a servant, and it seems like that some of the family moved to be near my gr grandparents. Will see if I can delve further now on Gladys children and regarding marrying into the name Lane well I know that my uncle had a godmother of the name Lane and will see if any connection there THanks for you time and findings much appreciated.

Wow Chris Ho brilliant. He would have been my grandfathers cousin. Something keeps niggling me at the back of my mind why does the name Bernard mean something to me. Is it something I heard or read when I was much younger. Will have to delve into my late grandfathers little black book to which he kept dates etc., of relatives - bless him I have been able to find some of my ancestors through this little black book. My grandfather passed away in 1973 and my uncle for some reason kept this book and before he passed away I asked him if he would leave this book to me to which he did. I keep telling people to now write on back of photographs and make notes of anything relating to family for this will help for next generation. Many thanks to everyone who helped but now have to find out more info on the Lane family for I know a Mrs Lane was the godmother of my uncle (1925) and she had a sister/sister in law who wed my gr uncle in the 1970s - so is there a family connection. This Mrs Lane kept a shop a few doors away from my grandparents so this will be a very interesting find. If anyone is willing to do some further searches for me would be much appreciated. Thanks once again to all concerned

Looks like Gladys did marry Harold Lane:
Birmingham electoral register: 1930 57 Station Road, Moseley & Kings Heath Ward
Harold Charles Lane Gladys Lane James Fletcher Rowley -------------------------------------------------------------------
James is listed at the 57 Station Road address 1920- 1930 ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Harold and Gladys then moved to 178 Pineapple Road where they lived for many years. Other Lane surnames at the address are Mary and Philip.
Mary is still living with Harold and Gladys in 1965.

thanks Gritty for that information hence now it doesn't look like its the same family of Lanes that lived a few doors away from my grandparents. Im not sure if I found a death for Philip in Bromsgrove? but I wonder if Mary ever married. It would be great if we could find some possible children of PHilip and Mary for they would be welcomed to our family gathering in October (Rowleys) coming from Australia, Canada and many other places.
