Hello
i am looking for any info or pictures of the Neptune inn,Bridge St,Bradford
This was the home of my ancestor Charles Haley in 1841.
So if any one can help.......

Am having trouble getting the actual newspaper image to display for this snippet:

Same day, aged 23, Ann, wife of Mr. Elisha Haley, of the Neptune Inn, Bridge.street, in this town.
27 February 1840 - Bradford Observer

If you were to contact the archive/local studies section they could probably search their catalogue for you, but will probably make a charge.

There is a report in the Bradford Observer on 4th October 1849 of a compensation case between the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company and Mr. Elisha Haley where it states that Mr. Elisha Haley has been at the Neptune Inn for 12 years (so from c. 1837).

It says Mr. Haley's lease on the premises was due to expire in May 1850.

Still can't get the image from the above newspaper to display.

It obviously relates to the death of Elisha Haley's first wife Ann (nee Deighton, married 1837). Seems Elisha remarried in 1841 to Harriett Noble.

There are quite a number of articles in the British Newspaper Archives, a lengthy one in Bradford Observer of 04 October 1849 about the compensation due to Elisha Haley for the termination of his lease - it states he had been at that time tenant for 12 years. It seems a railway company was taking over the property.

This all seems to tally with Elisha being an ironfounder by the 1851 census. He is listed in the inn in 1841 with Harriett.

Where does Charles Haley fit in with Elisha?

EDIT: This is the correct date of the newspaper article and Elisha's lease would have expired in May 1850.

Have just noticed in another article from 1836 that the innkeeper was a William Deighton, presumably the father of Elisha's first wife Ann.
