Using https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1®ion=UNITED_KINGDOM_IRELAND Not all the Manchester collection are indexed on FS (but might be on Ancestry) - I had to take the "browse the images" link, following the path given below [LancsBMD ref 33/8/454 means church #33 /register # for that church - 8 /entry or page # 454 (marrs are nearly always entry #s - Bs & Ds can be either - these rego's have 500 entries and 100 pages. I don't have any subs, so it's harder for me to give location data for 1911 I don't know Maria Knowles is Foster's sister, but she is in the next pice # to Foster Snr, so near her dad (if that's who he is)

Yes thats what I've got , but I can't find a birth for Elizabeth Father William Foster or a birth for a William Foster Hornby, I've wondered if they add their 2nd name after !!
I've put his birth about 1800, which matches with the marriage of John Hornby to Jane Foster as far as I've been able to find out they had Thomas 1787. John 1791 & Foster 1794 all in Horton in Ribblesdale. I suppose they could have had more children

Sorry I've been watching what time I'm on the net as I had a BIG bill.
Yes Kath
those 2 Fosters are mine, Fost has been used as a christian name since John Hornby Married Jane Foster in 1784c so when I see a foster Hornby as 1st or 2nd Christian name I like to look into it to see if it is one of my ancestors, but as you have been kind enough to find the marriage , it would appear that another Hornby has married a Foster and using Foster as a Christian name.
Now to check another one Familysearch has a Elizabeth Hornby b 1829 marrying a George Preston b 1825, in 1848 Saint Laurence York Elizabeth's father is down as William Foster Hornby?? not been able to check this one yet
Thank you for your help
