Thank you for those leads. I have stumbled across those myself with the exception of the Margaret in Derby. We seem to have come to a dead end regarding Joseph's ancestors in Scotland. I was rather hoping to find details of his first marriage to Margaret in the hope that it might have some more information about his father. thank you for all of your help, Anne |

There's only one birth 1820-30 in Scotland, per ScotlandsPeople, of a Joseph McGregor (or other spelling, with father John, but it's in Perthshire: |

There's only one marriage in Scotland, 1841-51 of a Joseph McGregor (or alternate spelling) to a Margaret - but it's in Aberdeenshire, which seems very unlikely to be the right one. |

There's this possibility for his first marriage, if they married in England - though not in Durham: |

Hello, I am wanting to find out details about my GG Grandfather Joseph McGregor. He appears in a census in 1841 6th June at Abbey Hill Brand Place Leith Midlothian Scotland and he is 15 and an apprentice joiner. He is with his father John McGregor born around, 1808, an upholsterer. |
