Can anyone help me find Josiah Dean's (born 1785 died 1874) parents? He was born according to the census info in Woodhead, Burslem, Endon Staffordshire. He married Nancy Sant in 1812 in Leek and died in 1874, buried Norton Le Moors. I am unable to locate any birth certificate details and therefore cannot find his mother or father. Any info or advice would be most gratefully received :-) thanks x |

Hi thanks for your info. In the line I am researching there are a few ancestors with the name Josiah and Joshua and at some point they seem to swap names. Eg. Josiah becomes Joshua on a census, but the details such as place of birth and date are correct for that person. Is this a common occurrence? |

Do you have the marriage "certificate"? It's on FMP. If you don't let me know and I will PM it if you haven't |

Wombourne is nearly fifty miles from Endon - I would say unlikely to be the same family? |

Josiah is listed in the poll books for Pirehill North- Parish of Norton in the Moors in 1832- there also a Richard Dean listed- wondered if this could be a brother, or father to Josiah, as I see he also has a son Richard listed in the 1841 census. |

I think your probably right about Wombourn it is a long way from Staffordshire, Endon. However, there appears to be a lot of Dean's in Endon, Norton in the Moors area. I had already got the marriage certificate and was wondering if John Dean, one of the witnesses could be his father, does anyone know if this could be possible. Who were witnesses back then? Much appreciating your time and info x |
