Find Ancestors

Isobel CRAIG marries James KING. Her parents, I believe were James CRAIG and Margaret WILSON both born about 1769. There were eleven children from this marriage. It is the parents of Margaret WILSON that I am trying to find to see if there is a connection to the parents of James KING.
His parents, I believe to be John KING 1774-1826 and Agnes WILSON 1782-1856. Johns parents were Thomas King and Janet Kerr. It is the parents of Agnes that I am also looking for. All of these people were from the Midlothian area of Scotland.
I have found myself getting confused......not hard to do!!!! So I hope someone can help with this.

With such a common name like Wilson I would think it difficult to prove you had the correct people without corroborating evidence.

Have you checked the availability of parish records for the area in the timescale you are researching please?

If Agnes Wilson died in 1856, does her death registration not name her parents?

Unfortunately the OPR's - for Scotland, at least - for banns / marriages, usually don't mention the couple's parents at all.

Re Agnes Wilson's death, ScotlandsPeople doesn't show any death for an Agnes Wilson (born 1782 +/- 2 yrs) in Midlothian in 1856. Where did you get your dates from?

Is this their marriage? - the only one SP shows for people of those names in Midlothian 1790-1854. Have you looked at the image to see if it mentions their parents - I'm assuming you have, and that it doesn't?:

Did you get The names of Isobel's parents from her death registration please?

James and Isobel married 16 August 1827 in Midlothian, Scotland. My information comes from a relative who stared researching quite a few years ago but gave up. I am unsure where the information came from originally. Their daughter Janet Wilson Craig married Peter Galloway and this is the connection (Galloway).

That marriage for James and Margaret could be the right.

The death for Agnes won't be Wilson.......it will be Agnes King......she was married to John King.

Oh, yes, silly me!

However, there are no deaths on SP for an Agnes King, anywhere in Scotland, born 1782 +/- 2 yrs, died 1855-57

If you buy credits on ScotlandsPeople you can view/print the image of the original document. It probably won't show parents' names, but you might be lucky.

The thing is amongst the notes I have is the fact that both Agnes Wilson and Margaret Wilson are listed as having the same parents......Andrew Wilson who married a Marion Jack.
That of course would mean that 1st cousins married ie. Margaret's Daughter, Isobel Craig married the son of Agnes, James King.

Hope this making some sense.

Jennifer..Do you have any idea where in Midlothian the family came from..we are looking at some 38 Towns/Parishes for the broad time frame in question..???


Edit...Just noted ArgyllGran's posting for Isobel Craig's marriage being Newton..... will focus on that area as Agnes Wilson King's children were born there....(Andrew and Marion)....

Looks like we are on the right track for Andrew and Marion. Their daughter Agnes marries John KING.......now to find their children, one of whom should be a James King born about 1802. We have a Marion born 1799 and Andrew born 1811.
James goes on to marry Isobel Craig.

Now to Isobel Craig, born about 1798 and whose parents are James Craig and Margaret Wilson. They married 31 Dec 1783 in Dalkeith, I would like to find the parents now of Margaret Wilson.

Once I can determine these facts I will be very happy. ??

Ok.....I have found some more information about Agnes and John King that Confirms what you all have found on another tree on Genes. However on this tree there is nothing for Isobel's parents, Margaret nee Wilson and James Craig. I'm hoping the great researchers on here can help me with sorting out Margaret??
