Hi I posted here a few years ago and am trying again now to see if there is anybody new out there that may be able to help me.
I am looking for a Death Date only for Alfred Robert Shaw. He was born in Kingsthorpe, Northamptonshire. His Parents were John and Amy Shaw. I have all the information about him from his birth until 1920 when he disappears, I do not know where else to look so if someone knows of him or has him in their tree could you please let me have any information.
Thanks
Jane

~What happened in 1920??
For our benefit, is this his 1911 census?
Alfred Robert Shaw Age in 1911: 27 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1884 Relation to Head: Head Gender: Male Birth Place: Knapthorpe, Northamptonshire, England Civil Parish: Birkenhead County/Island: Cheshire Country: England Street address: 38 Haldane Avenue, Birkenhead Marital Status: Married Occupation: Student Of Theology Registration district: Birkenhead Registration District Number: 452 Sub-registration district: Tranmere ED, institution, or vessel: 45 Piece: 22048 Household Members: Name Age Alfred Robert Shaw 27 Evelyn Blanche Shaw 29 Dorithy Amy Shaw 2/12
A tree on Ancestry suggest he married Evelyn Blanche Swayne. This is the last birth post 1911
Births Jun 1921 (>99%) Shaw Norman Swayne Salisbury 5a 301
Who registered it? If they married, how is he described on his childrens MC? Was Evelyn a widow when she died?
As he was a theological student in 1911, was he a Priest in Salisbury? (edit - wife died in Salisbury) Does the Cathedral/Diocese have any records? Could he have gone abroad as a missionary and died there?

I was wondering if this may be relevant:-
First name(s) A R Last name Shaw School / university name Durham University Narrative LTh, Unatt.; Temporary Chaplain to the Forces, 4th Class. Notes - Source University of Durham: Roll of Service 1914-1919 Roll - Country England Record set Britain School & University Memorial Rolls 1914-1918 Category Military, armed forces & conflict Subcategory First World War Collections from Great Britain

Hi Catherine
Thankyou so much for taking the time to help me. But I do have all that information that you have found. He disappears from Farnworth, Widnes in 1920 and was never seen again and that is where I have hit the brick wall.
It's so frustrating I don't know where to look next.

You did say you had his recorded history to 1920, but we needed a background
Many men who served in WW1, or any conflict for that matter, suffered mental illness as a result. There are also numerous burial records around the country for 'a person unknown'.
Whilst there is no proof that is what happened to Alfred, it is something to consider.
Has family descendents say he disappeared, or is it that you can't find further records? Have you checked the historical ER for his last known address ?

As already said, it's easier if we know what you know :) Was his wife a widow when she died, and who registered her death? What evidence do you have that he was at Farnworth until 1920?
He was the Reverend at Farnworth?
Burial: 1 Aug 1916 St Mary, Great Sankey, Lancs. Margaret Boden - Age: 2 years Abode: Sankey Notes: [J. R. Jones Vicar was originally entered as minister but this is crossed out] Buried by: Rev. A. R. Shaw. Farnworth Register: Burials 1909 - 1926, Page 45, Entry 354 Source: LDS Film 2147231

Northampton Mercury - Friday 06 September 1918
"The Rev. A. R. Shaw, son of Mr and Mrs J Shaw, of 51 Manor Road, Kingsthorpe, has received the offer of the living of St. Benedicts, Everton, Liverpool, a parish of 10,000 souls, income £300 and vicarage. Mr Shaw quite recently refused the living of St. Polycarp, Everton and is expecting to be called up as Chaplain. Mr Shaw occupied the pulpit at Kingsthorpe of the Sunday evenings, August 18th and 25th"
Did he take the offer?
Have you checked deaths in Scotland?
