I'm having difficultly learning who Charles George Waters parents were. He was probably born Newhaven 1863.
So far I know he married Emily Towner in 1887 where he moved to Ashford Road in Eastbourne by the 1891 census.
Before that I cannot find him on any census, but have a parish record that says his parents are Henry Thomas Waters and Mary Ann.
Earlier census (1871 and 1881) have a person called George Waters, who was also born in Newhaven in 1861 and who's parents are Fredrick Waters and Mary Waters.
Could anyone please help me to shed light on which assumption is most likely correct?
Thank you, Sam Waters

If you are sure the marriage is the right one, have you bought a copy of the cert to see who his father was?

Thanks, Yvonne.
I'm fairly certain this is the same person as Newhaven is very close to Lewes (and I believe it's in the Lewes registration district).
The first census he shows up on with the full name Charles George Waters is 1891 where he's listed as head of household and married to Emily Towner. There appears to be no record of him in any previous census.
In earlier census I can find a George Waters, but his parents are Fredrick and Mary.

Following on from the 1881 census posted by Yvonne:
Perhaps Charles was illegitimate? I don't see the death of a Henry Waters in Sussex 1862-64
Marriages Mar 1864 (>99%) Keinfich John Joseph Lewes 2b 205 Kenifich John Joseph Lewes 2b 205 Waters Mary Ann Lewes 2b 205
EDIT;
Sorry, I was getting mixed up between Mary Ann and her mother Mary Ann.

That's very interesting, Yvonne, and seems very likely he was just a visitor!
ArgyllGran, thank you for your input. I am certain their wedding details are correct as I have family information.
I'll certainly have a look into the Keinfich family to follow that lead.
Thanks again, Sam

Is this the Kenifeck connection from 1881??
|
The Mary Kendick in the 1871 posted by Yvonne is actually Mary Kenefick on the image, so that's the same family as in 1881 census, and the 1864 marriage.
So it looks like Charly in 1881 was a much younger brother of Mary Ann Kenefick, nee Waters, and son of Henry and Mary Ann (senior), as stated on christening record,
(I had thought he might be an illegitimate baby for Mary Ann Kenefick before marriage, and just registered as Henry & Mary Ann's son.)
