Thank you all - Alex's parents are correct - I got Alex & Eliz's m.cert after my g gran named her step-father on her m.cert - I believe there's no birth record for Elizabeth. I'd seen Alex's b details on FS as well as his parentage on his m.cert to my Eliz. I could then find Alex in 1841:
1841 Census Piece: SCT1841/218 Place: Longside -Aberdeenshire Enumeration District: 2 Civil Parish: Longside Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: - Folio: 2 Page: 3 Address: Blackhill Surname First name(s) Sex Age Occupation Where Born Remarks DUNCAN Lewis M 30 Farmer Aberdeenshire DUNCAN Margaret F 30 Aberdeenshire DUNCAN Alexr M 10 Aberdeenshire DUNCAN Wm M 8 Aberdeenshire DUNCAN Lewis M 4 Aberdeenshire DUNCAN Ann F 2 Aberdeenshire RITCHIE John M 15 Ag Lab Aberdeenshire RITCHIE Mary F 15 Ag Lab Aberdeenshire Blackhill is a couple of km N of Rora - it's only 200m S of the creek that forms the Longside-St Fergus boundary.
Jacqueline - yeah, there are Lewis's all over the place Alex has a brother Lewis as well as a son and father. My g gran would also name one of her sons as Lewis.
Erin - sent pm
Erin - Fetterangus is a bit odd county-wise. Pre-1891, There were several detached bits of Banffshire scattered around Aberdeenshire. The largest chunk included the whole parish of St Fergus. which was Eliz's dad's pob (see my posted 1851). However, the county also spilled over into bits of the adjacent parishes, like Lonmay, and Old Deer around Fetterangus. I seem to remember it also spilled into Longside, but I'm not sure. The boundary was regularized early in 1891, and all these detached bits became part of Aberdeenshire.
THANK YOU ALL - you have been most helpful.

Astra - I think that's her. On my g gran's birth record, it says her dad was from "Adie". in Cruden parish. I think this is a misrecording of Aldie, which is just 5km NE of Easter Auquharney, so this was probably the area she was working when she got pregnant. My g gran was with her grandparents (see 1851 for them).
Chris - looks good.
Thank you both.

Does anyone have any idea of when they died? Jacqueline - I can't afford any right now. I thought there was a way of teasing out the year without spending any credits.
