Find Ancestors

I need some help!

I have traced back to Joseph Higgs born 1737 in Brierley Hill (much of this is substantiated by certificates after 1837). Until this morning I had a whole ancestry for Joseph (unsubstantiated from other public trees)....then I had a Damscene moment and decided to start over again!

The Damascene moment was prompted by a UK and Ireland Find a Grave record...picture of cemetery so "the words of another" without any proof.

Anyway..Joseph son of Edward Higgs and Elizabeth Lea baptised 11/09/1737 St Mary's; married Jane Lea 26/05/1765 St Marys; buried 18/12/1814 St Michael's.

So filling in this generation is proving a minefield. I have a marriage for Edward and Elizabeth in 1737 (obviously very pregnant with Joseph). But then various trees have a number of children of which some can be attributed to Edward and Elizabeth Lea but some appear to be Edward and Elizabeth Gibbert (and I can't find a marriage to match this one).

And then Edward's parents?????? Consensus is Francis and Sarah White but I can find nothing to connect at all.

Any thoughts/help greatly appreciated!

I am trying to sort children into parents - I don't want to "colour" any thoughts but I have a selection of births to Edward and "an" Elizabeth

Yes that's my Joseph - the baptism that is mentioned on the "Find a Grave"....

As I say, there's no picture of an actual gravestone so all a "bit conjecture" - I want to go back from him - siblings and grandparents.

WHO is Elizabeth? Is she Lea or Gibbert?

This is the "entry" for Henry (and an obvious typo)

So I seem to have TWO Edward Higgs both married to an Elizabeth (Lea and Gibberts). I cannot substantiate the Gibberts marriage. But baptisms that only refer to the mother as Elizabeth don't help...:-( I am throwing around ideas in the hope that someone knows a source with a little mor e info....

Since records in those days didn't usually give the mother's maiden name, I guess these trees need to be taken with a pinch of salt-.
