The 1891 census (Margaret has been mistranscribed) has Margaret born Trelee, Ireland.
I am assuming that Trelee should actually be Tralee.
(Tralee is the county town of County Kerry in the south-west of Ireland.)
Margerete Harrington in the 1891 England Census Name:Margerete Harrington Age:45 Estimated Birth Year:abt 1846 Relation:Head Gender:Female Where born:Treelee, Ireland Civil Parish:Fulham Ecclesiastical parish:St Andrew and St Albans County/Island:London Registration district:Fulham Country:England

Unfortunately it doesn't state the relationship of Mary to Margaret.

Thank you to everybody that has posted information. I only joined Genes today, and I'm very excited to get going.
I probably should have been a bit more specific with my original post. I know the basics of the Harrington family (from the census's), but would really love to get answers to the parts I'm stuck on.
I'm hoping to find somebody who's researching the family, that has stories or information that they would be kind enough to share. Or for somebody who's a lot more savvy at researching than I am - which wouldn't be hard, as I'm brand new at it.
I want to order the birth and death certificates for James b1865 and Annie b1869, but I'm not sure how to be sure I have the correct ones? It has her as Ann O'Bryan on their marriage register, but she's Annie on everything else. I have ordered their marriage certificate.
I'd love to know the details of James's parents John and Margaret. I'd like to get their birth and death certificates, but I'm stumped on them. All I know is what the census says - John b1843 Wales and Margaret b1844 Ireland (don't know her maiden name).
I'd also like the birth and death certificates for Annie's parents. Somebody has written that her mother was Elizabeth O'Bryan b 1835 Ireland?
I'm feeling a bit stumped and useless at the moment. I seem to be ok finding basic, obvious stuff, but anything tougher than that is beyond me. I am learning bit by bit, but it's very frustrating.
I would very much appreciate anybody that would like to take pity on me and help me with those dates and reference numbers, so I can order the certificates. I know everybody is busy doing their own research, but I really would be ever so grateful for any help.
I'm wondering if the widowed Mary Harrington could be John Harrington's mother (age 70 on the 1891 census).

Please, Alexandra, take note that one post per topic is the site rule. helpers look at all boards, and it's much easier to keep track if all info is in one place
Read the posts at the top of this thread which offer tips and advice for those who, like you, are just starting out

This may help you
https://familysearch.org/learn/wiki/en/Ireland_Civil_Registration
One important point with regard to England and Wales is that there were no penalties before 1875 for not registering births, which meant that a lot of births for the time went unrecorded.
However, the majority of children were baptized..............so look for baptisms

Hi Alexandra
I don't know where Astra got the information from about Ann/Annie OBryan's Mother being Elizabeth.
Perhaps she will pop back on here and enlighten us.

That's the one I found PH. In 1881 she is in the Workhouse with a sister Catherine. Enlightenment comes late because I've been out for a couple of hours with the dogs!
Sorry it's a school they are in. if it is the same one. her sister Catherine is 8. She named one of her daughters Katie (as per census). Registered as Catherine in 1893
Births Sep 1893 (>99%)
Harrington Catherine Fulham 1a 295

Catherine is living with Elizabeth in Fulham in the 1891 census.

I'm confused (it doesn't take much lol). I haven't actually looked at those census's yet. Will have a proper look tomorrow - it's late where I live.
If on the 1871 census it says that Edward Wheeler is the father. Does that mean he's Ann's father or her mother Elizabeth's father? I thought it should say he was the head of the house?
He's a widow and 30 years older than Elizabeth.
If all the children have the surname of O'Bryan, and it says Elizabeth is married, then I have to find (?) O'Bryan that she married?

Ignore Edward Wheeler - Ancestry have got it wrong !
He is living in the same building as Elizabeth and family but is in a separate 'household'

I'm hoping that this is the birth registration of Rose O'Bryan who is also the daughter of Elizabeth. I can't locate any baptisms for the children but this should give you the name of her mother and her maiden name and also the name of her father. You should only order certificates through the GRO online using a credit or debit card. I think the cost is £9.25 wherever you are in the world. The volume and page numbers are the ones you need when ordering. Please be aware that other companies will charge you up to three times as much for certificates.
Births Sep 1858 (>99%)
O'Bryan Rose Ann Kensington Volume 1a Page 75
Ann's marriage certificate to James Harrington will also give you the name and occupation of her father.
Name: James Harrington
Registration Year: 1887
Registration Quarter: Jul-Aug-Sep
Registration district: Fulham
Parishes for this Registration District: View Ecclesiastical Parishes associated with this Registration District
Inferred County: London
Volume: 1a
Page: 577
I would only order the marriage certificate first as that is the one we think is correct and we can then hopefully trace her father You have to register on the GRO site first but it is free and very easy to use.
