The John Donovan who arrived in Canada in 1903 was born in Ireland.

A tree on Ancestry says that he died Feb. 1964, aged 81 at 68 Mill Lane, West Derby, Liverpool.

I saw that too Margee but they do not give any proof and there is no GRO reg for this death.

Thank you to everyone who replied to my post. The census and army info is the same person. There is a record in the 1911 census that shows someone in prison in Yorkshire but it was not the same person. The info about his death also turned out to be false. I have tried looking for him as Jack but no luck.
