Maria is my great grandmother and gave birth to my grandfather in 1878 and to his sister Florence in 1881. She was the daughter of Elizabeth (Fanny) Long and Robert Boyland and in the 1871 Census she was a servant. After my grandfather was born she returned to live with her mother and siblings. I have a copy of granddad's baptism certificate and there is no father's name shown. and both he and his sister were Boylands. His name was William Henry Long Boyland, the first two being after uncles and Long was his grandmother's maiden name. My father, Victor William Boyland and his parents died within three years of my birth and, as I became interested in genealogy after the death of my mother, there are no family members who can help me. |
