Thank you Jan and Polly. I think it must be him. I was hoping his birth place would say Barmpton, but I suppose it's possible the enumerator misheard. Would it be possible for an 1841 census look up - I know it doesn't have his birthplace but I would still be interested in having that. Thanks.

Birthplace of Thomas Byers


Barmpton Moorhouse is the name of a farm near Haughton le Skerne in Durham and can be seen on Ordnance Survey maps. Close by is a stream called Byers Gill. Thomas moved from there to Easington in North Yorkshire. Later he moved to Guisborough with his wife.

Just been looking on Family Search for children and for 1816 it says Kipp or Kill Byers (as if) and in 1853 a Hill Byers marries an Ann Greensides, father Thomas. Any chance of an 1851 census look for Hill Byers although on FMP it says John Hill Byers and he is at Guisborough. Thanks.

It was posted on Ancestry as comment on someone's tree
along with a correction that he married Mary Abraham in Cleveland which is part of North Yorkshire not USA (as had been posted.)

Thanks Jan, I am trawling through FS and there is a daughter Jane born 1822 (if it's the right one of course).

There is a Nicholas Byers born 1816 (don't know where) on the 1841 census at Bedale. I think he is unrelated to the above family but would appreciate a look at it to see who he is with as he may be related to another branch on my tree. Thanks.
