Janey

Mum used to make us "fritters" which was a batter mix - to which she added leftover meat or ham or corned beef - with onions and herbs

Then griddle a large dollop of the
mixture until slightly risen and well browned

Had loads of crispy bits on them - we all loved them as kids - not eaten them for donkey years

Might try them this week -

milk cheese???

do you mean goat's milk or sheep's milk?

theoretically yes

but I hate the results of ingesting lactose so much that I'm actually too scared to try them!

I did find a super soy cheese being sold by our local fish shop last year .............. called Sheeeeez or something like that!

Made in Scotland, among others, they had a "blue" cheese that tasted just like blue cheese .... didn't look like it, but on crackers tasted just great. A couple fo the others made great sandwich fillings.

It didn't cook too well, though.

unfortunately ................... the fish shop can't get any more bcause the local salesman insists that they buy $500 worth eveyr time ...... and they can't sell that much before it reaches Best Before date

and they can't afford to take the financial loss

I can't find anywhere else in Vancouver that is selling it ..... or has even heard about it!

Sorry Sylvia - I meant lactose free milk or lactose free cheese

We can buy it here - they do full - semi skimmed - skimmed - lactose free milk

And a good variety of lactose free cheeses and cheese spreads - including blue cheese lactose free

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 1 Nov 2010 21:36

ah Renes

I have tried one ...... and it tasted awful! So I only ate a tiny little bit

the problem is

....... I am not sure if I am lactose-intolerant, or intolerant of something else in dairy products

Lactose intolerance is the most common ........... but there are also a couple of other things that can cause problems.

I'm suspicious that it isn't purely lactose because eating Lactaid tablets does not work with me ................ and they should allow me to eat small quantities of lactose without problem.

Sylvia - could it be an allergy to the protein?

You can't eat cooked cheese, though?

I spat up eggs at 6 months, and still will only eat hard-boiled or scrambled well done, or quiche -- i.e. fully cooked.

I'm the same way with peanut things: love peanut butter cookies and peanut sauces, can't stand peanut butter. And cheese: I never eat raw cheese, except for cream cheese, but am quite fond of baked cheese toppings and such.

Apparently that's symptomatic of allergy to the protein; cooking breaks it down so it isn't a problem. When I had my allergy tests done years ago, I reacted to every single thing under the sun except those foods (the ones they test for) -- and they said that didn't mean anything because skin tests aren't the way to test for food allergies.

It worked. We've settle on the News. Thanks Fans.

Himself cannot eat cooked cheese (much as he loves it), because of migraines. Daughter can't take cheese in any way shape or form for the same reason. Likewise, she is affected by milk chocolate but can nibble a very small quantity of plain. Don't know what that is all about.

Me? Cheese and chocolate.......bring it on!
