Janey

They look tasty - I can get dried cherries here very easily and saffron is also very cheap here ( they use in in paella )

I was given an envelope full of home dried saffron by an elderly village neighbour a couple of years ago

The old girls dry cherries apricots tomatoes plums peppers moras jalapenos figs - all produce grown themselves

Not seen Basmati rice here though - seen risotto will have a look

I rather like these dried fruit / rice dishes

Sorry Cynthia ----- I will talk about my hug pile of ironing tomorrow

Promise

Actually bought some pasta stuff that you pop in the microwave - both daughter and granddaughter like it. Reminds me of blanched brains.

You have just made me remember a childhood 'favourite' Fans.

Make some sandwiches with Kraft cheese slices and sliced onion.

Do NOT eat them straight away but leave them for half a day (as if you were taking them for a school dinner) - out of the fridge.

They just soak and melt together!! - REALLY Yuuummm !!!

Give it a go and tell me what you think.

Dea Xxx

I am going off to make some for morning !!

Dea

Have a confession - when I want rice I go to freezer and take out a bag of frozen rice - all cooked and done - and frozen down in little bags -----------purchased from supermarket

Except if making paella - then start from scratch - but have been taught by my Spanish friend - who taught me all the local dishes -

I have even cooked them for her ( she had a bar restaurant ) and used to telephone me and say I will be late back go and start the cooking in the Bar -

As is the Spanish way - no please - if you dont mind - could you please

Simply - go and start now

No !! - I DON'T JOKE - Just try them !!!

I assure you, you will LOVE it!!

The onion just 'eats' into it and makes it all SO nice !!

I assure you - 'once' will be enough -as long as you leave them out of the fridge for half a day to 'seep' together!!

It'll be an 'Anchor' from childhood why Dea likes them

I once read that one of the ingredients used in the cheese slices was one of the plastics they use in umbrella handles!

This gets worse!

First it was Gins and her plastic ham and now Dea and her plastic cheese. What next............plastic duck....hahahaha

OH is watching an incredibly stupid (to me) film so I am bored. I must bear with him however, as tomorrow he sees his Parkinson's nurse which I always find slightly nerve wracking. She is a nice person etc. but I hate the thought that he may have to have more meds. Ah well. Such is life. In sickness and in health and all that!!

May have to do more dusting to alleviate anxiety.......lol

Dea

Dea Report 19 Oct 2010 21:54

You may 'scoff' Cynthia but I have just made those sandwiches and have left them to 'seep' till morning - I can assure you, they will be delicious !!!

Hope everything goes well in the morning for you Cynths!!

Hope he dosn't need more meds!! - Mine give me LOTS of side effects - Nasty, scary dreams, muscle cramps, confusion etc ., etc., - I wouldn't wish those on anyone - Let's hope he doesn't need any more !!

BIG hugg !!!

Dea x

P.S. - I wish one of the side effects was 'dusting' - I REALLY need that !!!

Basmati is the opposite of risotto! Basmatti is fine and dry and chewy (the white is lighter, but the brown has a nice body to it and nutty flavour). Risotto is like clumps of glue, I think.

Blanched brains. Cynthia, where are you finding this pasta?? Stop buying it predone. Get some linguini or fettucine, cook until it is just bouncy, NOT mushy, and start by buying either Alfredo sauce or pesto (or both) all prepared and try that. Soon you'll be making your own Alfredo and pesto (fresh basil and garlic, olive oil, pine nuts, parmesan) and not knowing how you got on with out it. I forgot to grow basil this year. Next year, I won't.

I get my rice from the freezer too -- mine, where I keep a couple of tubs of it I've cooked ahead and stored.

The latest frozen product that kills me: chopped up cubes of potatoes. The television commercial here is all about how you just don't have time to wash, peel, chop and cook potatoes for mashing, so you take a nasty great hunk of plastic out of your freezer with little cubes of potato in it, steam the potatoes, and throw away the plastic. You still have to mash the things though, don't you.

I buy frozen beans, frozen spinach, frozen peas and corn, because those are things that don't keep well fresh and I need to have around for quiches and stews and such. Frozen potato cubes? I just shake my head.
