Hi Tracy,
The Seager murder was from me..
March 28th 28/3/1839 William Seager – Otterden, Kent
Aware that his affair with the local rat-catcher’s wife was causing a scandal and that there was no long-term future in it for him, William Seager, 40, a shoemaker of Otterden, Kent, killed his lover and left her dead in the snow. She was Mrs. Hannah Giles, also 40. Her throat was cut and she had been shot. Her body was found by three children who she was supposed to be baby-sitting and who had gone to look for her. Terrified, the children ran back home and locked themselves in their house until their parents returned at 2 a.m. Seager fled towards London but was arrested on the way. He was found guilty of murder and hanged on Thursday, March 28th, 1839, outside Maidstone Prison.
LK found her death record ...
Name: Hannah Giles Gender: Female Burial Date: 10 Feb 1839 Burial Place: Otterden, Kent, England Death Date:
AND renes has been looking in old newspapers..
At the inquest it was said that he was at his mothers house- cannot remember now if it said living at - or just at - a witness said she saw him make the bullett - I cannot view the article as I am using my iPod tonight - but from memory it was a young girl - could be the Smith girl

Rene found - the village is less than 2 miles from Julies ancestors
Name: Wm Seager Baptism : 29 Dec 1799 Otterden, Kent, s/o John Seager and Angelica
But - Julie found 2 entries for William, b. c1798, Otterden, on census the 1871 & 1881 records and a death in 1883
I have 4 more William s - 1 at Offham July 1802 - and 2 1804 Maidstone and 1 Sept 1798 Deptford
Is this connected?

LK,
Not too sure why people are looking for William Seagar? The guy who killed Hannah was Samuel Seagus (ar, ur)!

That is correct Tracey
I have not seen any other article but the one I have added earlier.
Renes found a different article and she told me that the name 'Samuel" was used on that.
BUT it was a William Seager who was hanged in 1839

Julcoe May I suggest you start a thread on this and cut and paste the varios bits from here so that it is all in one place, The original question was yesterday morning and that was page back. That would be much easier for Tracey to read.

I am almost positive that they are the parents & brother of the William Baptism : 29 Dec 1799 Otterden, Kent,

I did not actually ask a question.
Renes had been looking for some info for me about the Seager family and I came across the article about the murder and sent it to her.
She thought that you ladies on Ginny's thread might also like to read it, so I posted it on this thread... and it sort of "grew" from there.
Now I would just like to find out if his name was William Seager or Samuel Seagus and how the two could be mixed up.
I am sorry that this problem is taking up so much space on the thread.
