Well - my faith in human nature is restored!

I called someone out to look at my drains as I had a problem with the drain from my kitchen sink.

O.K. - he was someone my son used to work with, many years ago, but I didn't want 'mates rates', just a reliable job done!

He arrived, 'worked his socks off' for a solid 2 hours and then admitted that, although it was VERY much better, he had not quite cleared the blockage - he recommended we put some acid down and leave it to work its way through for 24 hours now that it was partly broken through.

To be honest, It looked as though it was sorted to me but he said it was not 'completely' cleared and therefore he would not take a penny in payment!

Anyone else would have said 'there you go Mrs. - job done, sign here and give me the cheque" !! I would not have known the difference.

I felt SSooo guilty (and still do) that he did all that work and received no payment. He even thanked me as he was leaving for the cup of coffee that I had made him.

I just wish I had cooked him a 4 course lunch to go with his coffee now !

He wouln't even have taken that Ginns. - Such a lovely man!!

He's working for himself and I fear he will never become a millionaire, but at least he has a clear conscience.

someone sent me this thought it was very clever

Outside England 's Bristol Zoo there is a parking lot for 150 cars and 8 buses. For 25 years,it's parking fees were managed by a very pleasant attendant. The fees were for cars (£1.40),for buses (about £7).
Then, one day, after 25 solid years of never missing a day of work, he just didn't show up; so the Zoo Management called the City Council and asked it to send them another parking agent.

The Council did some research and replied that the parking lot was the Zoo's own responsibility.

The Zoo advised the Council that the attendant was a City employee.

The City Council responded that the lot attendant had never been on the City payroll.

Meanwhile, sitting in his villa somewhere on the coast of Spain or France or Italy ... is a man who'd apparently had a ticket machine installed completely on his own and then had simply begun to show up every day, commencing to collect and keep the parking fees, estimated at about £560 per day -- for 25 years.

Assuming 7 days a week, this amounts to just over 7 million pounds ... and no one even knows his name.

Is that really true Ja...x?

If so, although I don't condone fraud, you have to admire him for getting away with it.

He has given 25 years 'loyal service', no-one has suffered and he has done 'very well for himself'.

I hope he enjoys his 'retirement'

BTW - It's just over 5 million but hey, who's counting??

Renes

Renes Report 16 Oct 2010 20:28

It would have to be a hoax

No one could work for 25 years without day off for something or other

Would have though the only crime her would have committed was trepass - there would not be fraud as the car drives got their parking so was offer and acceptance - so contract

You can see I am bored tonight

Any more jokes - stories anything
Interesting

Dea

Dea Report 16 Oct 2010 20:35

Firstly, I believe it would be 'fraud' as he is claiming money by deception.

Secondly, 'IF' it were true, I think I would be tempted to go into work every day if I was going to end up with such a sum.

Thirdly - I too am bored tonight - 'Come on people', I am with Renes on this - where are the jokes?

Who was it that told the one about the bear a while ago - you must have some more??

Dea x

Renes

Renes Report 16 Oct 2010 20:45

Dea

Where's the deception - he offers " park your car for £1.50 per day " - and they park the car for the £1.50 - so as there is offer and acceptance - in market overt conditions - there is a contract - there is no deception

Dea

Dea Report 16 Oct 2010 21:00

The deception is that he is misrepresenting himself as someone who has the authority to offer this service on those premises.
