Find Ancestors

Hi , my name is Ruth. I am looking for descendants of Frederick Henry Ford Slater and Fannie Slater (nee Page) who lived in Odessa Road, Forest Gate, East London in the first half of the 1900's. They had nine girls, Emily, Ada, Olive, Dora, Beatrice, Clara, Minnie, Ivy, and Alice. Also two sons John and Walter, both died during WW1, one from influenza and one in action. I know some of the girls' married names to include
Crowe, Curtis (I am in touch with the Curtis family), Henderson & Wells. I am the granddaughter of Olive Slater who had a son Herbert Macdonald Goodwin (my dad) who emigrated to Australia in 1947. I have a photo of Emily Slater's wedding day where the whole family are together (her daughter married Ed Fenton the former Manager of West Ham Football Club). I got this info from
the daughter of Dora when I visited England from Australia in 2007. Any information would be appreciated.

I don't know of your family of Slaters, but I am descended from Slaters of East London who lived mainly in Stepney - do you have a link to this area?

Thanks for the reply, going on the fact my family are quite big and lived in and around the east end, beginning with Forest Gate, some of them could have moved to other parts of the east end, in fact most likely. Does any information you have match anything?

Dear Ruth
Have just come across your post! Fanny and Frederick are my great grandparents! My mother Gwendoline is one of five children born to Clara and her husband George Crow -my grandparents who lived in Odessa road
My mother Gwen is fit and well and is 100 years old tomorrow. there is an old family story that she likes to tell that her grandma Fanny and her sister beatrice were ladies in waiting to queen Victoria and that Frederick had the freedom of the city of London -but I am unsure if this is true. But there were certainly the respectable side of the family my mum was very close to her cousin Renee, daughter of Emily, whose dad died in the war and who later married Ted Fenton, who played for and later managed West Ham united. Any info about the Slaters that you can provide would be so much appreciated

Hi Ruth again -I have an old photo of the whole family at a wedding taken in August 1918 -it is Minnie marrying Charles Cave -my mother is on her mothers knee and aged about 2. The groom is in army uniform.
