I am trying to find AUGUSTA GARRETT b.Watlington OXFORD1826c & died 1861 parents. were.
I have 1851 census which states mother Elizth GARRETT but no father on it. Maybe he had died by then? Any way would like to find out Elizth Maiden name. It saID SHE WAS BORN iBSTONE bUCKS. 1789C. Would love to have sight of 1841 cenus. Thanking you Anne

The Thomas Garrett 1845 on 1851 census down as son of Elizabeth was the son of Augusta according to tree on Ancestry.
He was born to unknown father in 1845 in union Workhouse in Henley The tree also contains photos,copy of Thomas's birth certificate and further interesting matter.

If Thomas was born 1845 in Henley like John 1848 on census then he too maybe son of Augusta

Thomas 1845 and Caroline nee Neal on 1871 census with his brother James 1853 so Augusta looks to have had 3 children out of wedlock.
1861 James Garrett 1853 down as nephew with James Garrett 1833/5 and wife Mary 1821.

I have tried every where can't find Augusta on 1841,thought she might be in Henley workhouse but didn't see her there.Most annoying.

Joseph Garrett christend in Stonor 1787 by William Garrett and Mary Stevens who were married in Stonor 16/2/1779.
They also had Thomas 1779 and Lucy 1783.

The Joseph I am looking for emigrated to Australia in the 1850s..On his marriage in Victoria in 1872 he gives his age as 38 and his parents as Joseph Garrett and Elizabeth maiden name unknown and his place of birth as Hadley on Thames. This I think should be Henley on Thames. The marriage age and what I am fairly certain is his entry into Australia in 1856 make his birth in 1834, but!!! his age at death on the death certificate and in a newspaper entry on an inquest into his death put his age as 78 or 79 in 1899 which puts his birth at 1820-1821!!!

It seems to point to Joseph Garrett and Elizabeth Bissell or Pishill as his parents bur there is no baptism or sign of him in the 1841 or 1851 censuses.

could he actually be the Job Garrett in that family?

There is no census record of Job after 1851, and no marriage or death in the vicinity.

(the one who married in Witney reg dist in 1874 shows in the 1891 census with wife Harriet as born in Warwickshire c1845)

Possibly altered his name to Joseph on emigrating.

I couldn't see why a possible Joseph Garrett did not appear in either the 1841 or 1851 censuses.
